My money is on Marky Mark. I think Donald underestimates him at his peril. Great piece on BBC News yesterday on how you lovely Canadians have stopped taking so many flights to the US and how your supermarket shelves have non-US sections. 💪

Conny Donny underestimates a lot of people, you're right, his ego will be his undoing. And yes, many Canadians cancelled trips to the US, and we have maple leaf stickers on all the Canadian products so we know what to buy.

Taking on Greenland is too funny for words. If he understood anything about them, Denmark and Europe he’d be running in the opposite direction. Cockwomble.

I love the Canadian Prime's statement today, that the close bonds time between Canada and the US is over!

Mango Mussolini is no longer the leader of the free world. He lost that title during his first shitshow. I mean his first "term." Now it seems that the title has been permanently taken from the US as a country. And the absolute moment this happened was whn he thought it would just be so cool to tag team with JD McCouchfuck against an actual leader, Volodomyr Zelinskyy.

I also hope Carney wins. He seems strong, practical and not averse to the horrible socialist idea of the government helping all citizens.

Came here to say this about the whole "leader of the free world" thing. By re-electing TFG, the US has totally given up any claim to that title. I'm obviously hoping that the Liberals win in April. If we in the US can claim anything at this point, it's that we're a great cautionary tale for other countries, like Canada.

We have an election coming up here in Australia, too…and many of us are justifiably nervous about the outcome. The incumbent Labour Prime Minister is no great shakes, but if the Drumpf-loving Voldemort lookalike opposition leader gets elected, the so-called Liberal party will gut our country , undermine any support for our First Nations people, cut down the last forests and turn the whole country into a coal mine.

We will need it. The recent referendum on whether First Nations Australians should be given a “voice to parliament” (nothing powerful, just the opportunity to give advice) showed just how many closet racists we have in this country.

Sadly, yes🥺it couldn’t have happened at a better time but I wish it had never happened, and it would all just right itself, somehow. I am so sorry for all of the USA right now…stay strong 💪🏻 something’s gotta give…this chaos needs to end and I fully believe it is beginning to crumble. Watch out for the cloud of orange dust when he falls😊

Carney knows enough about money to be his own Minister of Finance, but I don't think Parliament would be ready for that.

He certainly does, but there's other money people out there, we need him doing bigger things at the moment.

Prof Wilding, most honored chair of Canadian History,

Thank you for this synopsis and bio of

Carney. Congrats! He already cut off relations with the US, so we know

he has good judgment.

It is important for our (US) allies to reject trump and all that he stands for, to support Ukraine and stand against Russia and Erdogan in Turkey, and protect themselves against trump's demented grabs for power and his total lack of humanity.

IT WILL HELP US BEAT HIS ASS OUT OF THERE.

We are with you Canada, Mexico, Greenland, EU.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE!

I don't remember running for that position 😆.

Sigh, yeah, it was a smart move from Carney. I just hope there's enough of an alliance against him. But if he keeps all this shit up, I can't imagine many countries siding with him.

but ugh, I feel terrible for the good Americans caught up in this.

I never realised until now how very alike Canadian and Australian’s are. There are differences but oh the similarities. Although I did have to look up what elbows up meant. Aussies had a chuckle at being accused of “dumping” aluminium on the USA - cuz it’s like 2% of the market. Keep it up Canada your Commonwealth cousins are cheering you on. I think Australia has been relatively spared at the moment because America has more to lose if Aussies decide to boycott American products - it’s already started but not to the extent of Canada - yet.

Robin Wilding's avatar

Oh yeah, Australians and Canadians are very similar. I used to joke with my aussie friend that ozzies were just Canadians left out in the sun too long (which explains their phenomenal senses of humour).

And at the moment Canada loves Australia even more--it sold us the radar system instead of the US :)

After last night's speech from Carney, I think that the Party (and later, the People) would be idiots not to lock hm in as PM.

...and I think we I'm angry, extremely angry that the Orange Jackass defiling our White House drove us to this point.

I know the you want to write comedy, Robin, but there's nothing funny about this today.

I agree we'd be idjuts not to solidify him as PM. But unfortunately, Canada has its yeehaw yahoos too, so I can't say with certainty. But I am optimistic about him winning.

I try to find the funny, but you're right. At least I get to dust off the poli-sci degree (the other one is in journalism) that for the last couple of decades has been holding up a wonky table. 😆

I haven’t voted for a liberal since Jean Chretien’s first term, oh so many years ago! That was because , I didn’t want to see Brian Mulroney’s replacement in the PMO after he stepped down.

The time has come for this guy to vote liberal again because I can’t stand the idea of a pm who wants to side with a wanna king/dicktater south of the 49th parallel!!

Robin Wilding's avatar

I love that in Canada, the party lines generally aren't as staunch in the US. I've voted for both sides, although have leant more liberal just due to having candidates I happened to like the policies of more. PP's support of Trump on top of his smear campaigns sealed the deal for me though. I think that will be his undoing politically, because we aren't the US.

So normally I wouldn't care how you vote (because it's not that big of a difference), but I do think that's the solid vote this time :)
