Thank you for this post. It meant so much to me. As a trans Woman, I am always looking for that Disney princess outfit, moment, experience! A great start to this day of my journey. 👗❤️🙏🏽💃🏽
I am IN LOVE with this post!!!! First of all, I'm missing way more than a few sequins so there's that.
Second, girl...your body is slammin' in that thing! I could never wear it, I'd loom more like a frumpy whale with a distended belly than a mermaid 🧜♀️ 😂😂 Okay, I just made myself laugh lol.
We've all got some sequins in our rearview these days.
Thanks for saying my body is slammin'! These days it feels like it's slammin'...right into a wall. I'm sure you'd look great in a dress like this, but that comment was hilarious 😆😆.
This post makes me HAPPY! Judging by the other comments here, I'm not alone — so look what you've achieved with $18. And you look FABULOUS in that glittering gown. Iris Apfel (God rest her stylish soul), who died this year at 100+, proved that we are never, ever too old to delight in playing dress up. So rock that divine dress whenever the mood suits you, sez I :-)
I swear we could be related. That dress is GORGEOUS (Ariel vibes) and I totally would have bought it too, you look absolutely stunning in it! I understand the not feeling sexy too, but for different reasons. For a long time I wasn't being 'seen', plus I'm a very practical person so... No Room For Nice Things.
Who knows, we might be! If not then just sistas from different mistas. But yeah, ugh, the not feeling sexy struggle is real. I saw your 'vanity' note about the glasses and I felt that. I had to get glasses earlier this year and had a vanity moment about them too. To continue our great-minds-think-alike trend, I hear you on the practical thing. This dress is wildly out of character, I'm usually much more realistic with purchases. Maybe you just need to find your version of the dress :)
Yep getting used to them now but it might take a while until I feel pretty in them 😬 Haha well I would love to. I loooove Disney princess glitter vibes. Sadly I'm moving and investing in a ton of shit I need so it'll be for in a few months at the earliest probably.
It really does take a little time to get used to them. But I'm fairly adjusted now. Plus I only need to wear them if I don't want things to be blurry 😆. Well it sounds like you have your shiznit in order so you can take pride in that. Having been poor a lot haha, you know what's free? Going to the mall and trying on pretty dresses ;) Then if you fall in love with one, just write down the make and model and you could find it online later on.
I lack the impulse control for that because it is SUPER rare that I immediately fall in love with a dress so when it's flirting with me, I gotta have it 😂
Let the Halloween teases begin, I first imagined you in that mermaid dress made me smile and thought she’d look good, scrolling down like a dance between you and I 🐾🎯🌹❤️🍁
Fabulous! I say wear it with nowhere to go:) I bought a fancy red pant suit with an open back (wth?! How does one wear a bra?) that I wore around the house all day 🤣 it was on the clearance rack for $4 or $7…I couldn’t pass it up. It definitely changed my mood for the better…though I don’t know what my neighbors thought of me 😆
These thrift-store finds are lighting up lives all over it seems! A backless red pant suit sounds incredible. Ditch the mammory hammocks..those damned booby traps are horrendous contraptions.
“They say you should dress your age. But who are ‘they’ anyway? ‘They’ have terrible advice.”
Wiser words have not been spoken! Robin, you are a gawddammed PRINCESS in that magic dress! I’m so glad you bought it (I would have too!) and you need to find an event to wear it to. Halloween is coming!
An excellent article on the power of clothing to bust you out of a rut.💕
Maybe there's a setting where it'd make sense! That place could be out-of-the-ordinary fun. Do the thought experiment.
I have owned a certain pair of thrift store pants for 30+ years. They're bright red polyester bell bottoms. My assumption is that a dirty old man, a slim former swinger (think Mr. Furley but sexy) died ca. 1990 and his ridiculous duds went to goodwill.
For most of my adult life I couldn't fit in them. Now I can. I'm in the best shape of my life at 53, and they fit!
Point being, Robin, that we look cool and just need someplace to go. Happy going, have fun!
Those pants sound amazing, and I loved that you not only kept them but eventually rocked them!! I'll follow your lead and figure out some times/places to wear the dress :)
That's right. Always do whatever you want to do, not what it feels like THEY want you to do. I live my life by that mantra. You look awesome in your new pretty dress, Sis! &:^)
hehe, I love that spelling of 'MAH-H-Hvelous!'. As one of my most OG readers, you'll definitely see some overlap and repetition, and I adore that you're not sick me yet :)
WOW! Love this post!!! Very funny even though it requires laughing at you (really the me that’s you in the story)…..and seriously though…..you actually do look great and very Canadianly beautiful 😀

I hope you find your princess dress!!
I hope you have your Disney princess moment or fun movie-montage-like try on. If you see something shiny, try it on! ❤️

Wear the damn dress to vacuum if you have to.

Ps: I meant to say LOOK, not loom. But maybe frumpy whales also loom?
Loom kinda adds character to it hehe

Aww yay, thanks Jan! I'll have to google Iris, but she sounds right up my street. I hope we all live to 100 and still revel in things like dress up :)
You'll get a huge kick out of Iris Apfel. A true original.
I kinda thought more Vanna White than Little Mermaid.
My laugh out loud moment here was fueled by “Holy fucksickles Batman!” The Adam West Batman, of course.
Good fun and thanks for your self image honesty!
XX
Vanna White? I'll take it! Glad you liked the 'holy fucksickles Batman' hehe, and yes, definitely West.
Just out of curiosity, what exactly is a fucksickle?

I think you should put it on and write!
One story about my boob popping out while hunched over a laptop coming right up! 😆
Brilliant advice. I want to know the story that'll come out of this exercise 😁

Yay me for saying something wise! haha. And thanks :)
I don't know about for Halloween. It would be hard to fit a snowsuit under it (stupid Canada).
I would do zombie makeup with that dress for shits and giggles and call it “I die for fashion.”😂
😆😆😆

Exactly, we do what we want. Like...try to take over the world--muah ha ha!! Thanks Bro
Reading this never gets old!

Bring ‘em on!
PS. That is from a very early Billy Crystal characterization of Fernando Lamas, circa 1985. Look for the video on YouTube.

Aww thank you so much Michael 🥰. And I loved that you reacted to the you that you saw in the story, that's amazing.
Canadianly 😂😂
Break down the walls and dress like you love yourself! Yea! Love the dress, admire your grit! Go girl❤️
Love this ❤️❤️❤️ Thanks Deb :)
