This was very funny and accurate! I've been in the printing business for 35 years and honestly fonts are the bane of my existence. People, just because you have 50 fonts in your computer, you DO NOT HAVE TO USE THEM ALL ON ONE FLYER!!!
I’ve been a graphic designer for 30+ years and could not agree with you more! It’s been visual Armageddon out there ever since typesetters became extinct :(
i was one of the teacher's few 'chosen ones' who got to erase the board & wash off all the chalk. now i no longer have to wonder why Chalkboard is my favorite font today.
I like to create word game poems out of anagrams and was first introduced to "serif" to make a set of anagram with "fires, fries and reifs." Below is the poem I wrote 17 years ago! The missing words are the set of anagrams. Answers at the bottom.
The first two words are easy and should be no surprise,
For example, in England they use vinegar not ketchup for their -----.
And this is easy, a potter needs an oast that ----- his clay,
But for next words you might need a hint to make it easier to play.
Go to wordsmith.org anagram server and type in the missing word from line three
And it will list the word -----, which is new to me.
Apparently it is a flourish that makes the letter M look like this:
(Sorry the comments won't let me illustrate a serif M)
And the last word is -----, an obsolete word for thefts that even the internet might miss.
Ahh, the joy of fonts. I don’t have a favorite one, it’s a complete mood pick. And sometimes if it’s a dense and complex article I’m reading I need a font change to find the one that helps me absorb the information. Comic Sans tho is my spirit font.
Hilarious! There are many times I’ve sat around with friends discussing the worst fonts, the ones best to read a book by, or write a love letter, or an FU letter. Fonts —always entertaining.
Oh the font memes I could post here if only we could post images in comments!
I'm sooooo bored of the fonts of the world. Since I design wordmarks for a living I feel like I'm running out of selections. Hey, is your wordmark done in Wild Sensa? I've seen it enough to know it with my eyes closed.
But Montserrat is my vibe when I'm not busy shooting serifs.
I once submitted a letter of resignation in Comic Sans. (Yes, intentionally.)
😆😆 Amazing.
😂😂😂

😆😆 Here here, you absolutely don't need to use them all. What sort of psycho does that

"visual armageddon" 😆
Max of 3 was our rule. Dad set ads using loose type as an apprentice, then on a Linotype for a Canadian newspaper.
Rule 2 - don't fill white space.
Rule 3 - never mix red & green.
😊
Solid rules Lord.

Chalkboard is a visceral memory, nice.
Don't be such a Bembo! You're Arial joker sometimes ... a hound of the Baskerville. Hermann Zapf wouldn't approve.
😆😆

Your level of nerdiness is something to drive for Liza. 😆😆 That was impeccable.
This was a clever Fundraiser, Robin, very original, just like You 😃 Thanks for the smile on my face this morning ☕ and will reStack ASAP 💯👍
Thanks Karen, glad you liked it :)
I was Calibri before Calibri was cool. And you'll have to pry my Oxford comma out of my cold dead hands.
Bodoni, or more precisely Bodoni Bold, got a callout in that classic '80s movie "About Last Night". Bonus points to anyone who can name the scene.
before calibri was cool 😆. Prying the oxford comma out of your hand, is that a challenge? hehe.
I have to admit, I don't know that movie.
Early (1986) Demi Moore, Rob Lowe, Jim Belushi, Elizabeth Perkins. Great lines - worth a watch!

Ooph I hear you on changing the font depending on mood and what you're reading. It's a fun way to trick the brain into things!
Your spirit font 😆😆
Birds of a feather font together…

hahahaah those are amazing
Glad I'm not the only one who anthropomorphizes fonts.
I'm glad there's more of us too! haha
Why did you choose Futura Condensed. The non-condensed original version is glorious, and speaks eloquently of the era of Moderne and Art Deco.
Apparently I did it specifically to bother you 😆
I’m flattered.

I love how many font nerds on here haha. That sounds like a friends chat I want to get in on.
Everybody knows it …I hate Times New Roman 😛
Tell us how you really feel Geoff 😆
You know what I'm thinkin...
LOL @ I shot the serif 😂😂

I didn't know it was possible to run out of font selections. but I guess if you live and breathe it you know them by heart.
I do love some Montserrat too, so clean, so stylish.
And this is why I’m summed up by Smack. Everyone KNOWS I’m a mess.
😆😆
Any Palatino friends out there?
Thanks for the reminder: Palatino is an old friend :)
Yup, me!
