Love love love this! The Morgan Freeman quote is perfect - and your last line - "one day humans will stop being shitheads to one another. Love is not a crime, and I wish everyone could proudly love out loud." says it all. You are a talented writer - and your humor, satire and sarcasm are delicious! I did a lot of music and theater in my younger years, and I have had many incredible gay friends (NEWS FLASH - THE STEREOTYPE OF GAY MEN IN MUSICAL THEATER IS BASED ON FACT!!!). I was raised in fundamentalist Christianity, and taught that being gay was an abomination. Fortunately, they never convince me of that one. A straight woman who adores gay men - I know it's hard to believe, but yes, it's true!!
Aww I'm so glad you liked it. The gays in musical theatre definitely isn't just a stereotype 😆😆 Almost every guy I knew that was in high school theatre was a friend of Dorothy already, or would come out later. There was one straightie.
I'm glad you saw through the fundamentalist Christianity idea of gay people. It's hurtful and wrong. Also if there was a Jesus, he would've been friends with gay guys for sure.
Jesus was never a "Christian." And he never would have endorsed the way that Christianity has been weaponized to provoke hatred and separation and judgment!
I was a figure skater starting at age 10. That stereotype is true too (the straight ones are EXTRA straight). Gay men to me were funny and supportive. Our gang of gays would defend us little girls with their lives. They were great babysitters. Then I did theater. Yeah.
I LOL at the Tony Awards when one presenter said "On the chance there are any gay men here..." and he waited for the audience to quit laughing.
I loved Lawrence's protest sign: No Kings, Yaaas Queens.
Since I was a figure skater when I was a pre-teen, I know this voice well. After that I did plays and moved near-ish San Francisco so duh. I have near-perfect gaydar.
But a friend of mine who's lived in the area all her life and also did music and theater things had none. Nada. Zip. She was always getting crushes on guys, me and my BFF would see them and instantly blurt "But he's gay" and her face would fall. Eventually she started asking the two of us right off the bat. As far as celebrities go, there was exactly one who was straight. Exactly like that old SNL skit.
You lived in a gay trifecta 😆😆. That's wild your friend didn't get better gaydar. I mean...it's not just 'gay voice', there's also gay mannerisms, even 'gay face'.
Yaaaaassss, thanks Prof. Wilding for this stimulating
lecture on gay voices. Not
toooooo stimulating, just
enough. You go girl.
I'm glad it was the right amount of stimulating haha. Thanks Linda :)
Most elucidating. Also fabulous.
Definitely fabulous :)
"Australians commonly use rising inflection in their speaking" was going to comment that. They sure do?
😆😆 They sure do!(?)
And then it spread to California?
Totally?

I remember that from the Tony's! And Neil Patrick Harris did this before the 65th Tony Awards - so funny!! (he's such a talent!) https://youtu.be/3BHyfYiBt5o?si=Esz_bnTtx15XUVwJ
Love NPH. He can do anything. Even play a super-straight guy.
I met him once just to say hi to and say I liked his work. Very nice. Adorable.

Yaass--Lawrence's sign was fantastic.

She grew up VERY repressed and ridiculously Italian Catholic.
"Because love always wins." Testify!
Was having a bad day. This helped. Thanks!
Aww that's awesome. I hope your day today is better Sylvia :)
Very interesting.
Love this! Not only are you Wilding funny, but I always learn something educational. Rock on!
Aww thanks Kay-El. Glad you liked it :)
