Now that is a fateful meeting.

And what a superpower. Forget about flying or super strength. Taco telepathy is a rare talent. Finding a taco- in Canada- in three feet of snow!

Her taco senses must have been tingling.

Taco telepathy hahaha, exactly. Her food-finding capabilities are wild.

I look forward to reading your pieces every chance I get. This one really hit. I’m not so much a dog lover as a Moia lover. Moia is my 85lb Collie Shephard cross Rescue dog. Moia means Dear. She’s been herding me through some treacherous waters too over the past 10 years, always loyal, always full of comfort. Thank you for your gift. I appreciate you. Chela has good taste, in tacos and people

Moia is such a beautiful name. And she sounds wonderful. I'm glad you have her in your life. Cherish those moments.

Chela does have good taste.

Dogs have the most important super power in the universe - unconditional love. I appreciate your story of mutual unconditional love.

It really is a superpower of theirs. We don't deserve them sometimes but I'm so glad we have them.

Thanks for reminding that a dog's love, and her wisdom, lasts forever.

Aw, beautifully put Richard.

Thanks Kathryn. I'll return to the regularly-scheduled humor now I swear.

Beautiful tribute to Chela and a pleasure to read right after the election! As a pet parent of three, I thank you for this intimate share. 🥰

Aww thank you Millicent. Pet parents have a tough job sometimes, but its such a labor of love and our lives are so much richer for it. :)

Aw, I hope her Rainbow Bridge is made of tacos, filled with the most delicious lobster! It's so sad to see our furry fam aging. They are little comets that blaze through our lives.

Damn, it's dusty in here...

It's dusty here too, weird.

The 'little comets that blaze through our lives' is just PERFECT. Such an apt description. Damned dust in my eye again.

What is with all this dust??? fuck!

Sorry for the sniffles. I'm back to humor now, after this short sad spell.

Oh. My. God. I needed a box of Kleenex for this one. I can't handle the thought of a dog's time coming. Dezi is only 4.5 and I'm already dreading the day.

What a gorgeous story of a beautiful BFF 😥😥 The way you found her is something I've seen a time or two in Jamaica. Random dirty road puppies. Many of them don't make it, Chela is lucky she found you and I feel like on her last day she'll be indulging in a lot of tacos 🧡

Sooooo.....can I cross-post this on Dog Snobs next week?

Sorry about the kleenex. I'm back to the regularly-scheduled humor I swear.

Don't worry about Dezi yet, you have plenty of time :)

Absolutely you can! Although I've got a funny poem coming up about dog breed behaviour that is definitely funnier.

Dog Snobs isn't all humor. I do like to include some "real" stuff in there as well and this story is so amazing. I love the Mexico rescue and travel aspect of it. And there are no rules for how many times someone can guest post!

True, it’s not all humor. And the way you describe it makes it sound like a great fit! :)

So sweet. I love how our dogs choose us. And their personalities match that particular chapter in our lives for the way too short 10-17 years. Wishing you and Chela many more years together.

Loved this. Chela has given you the most cherished companionship. You’ve run the gamut of emotions with her. Fear/horror when you discovered her, surprise! (Here’s an improbable taco!), envy (lobster, buddy? Really?), freedom, safety (a dog’s loyalty is hard to reproduce), the most profound love. Someone once told me that the aesthetic that drives Korean movies (think Parasite, or that crazy show I never saw, Squid Games) is one of taking the viewer on a journey to intensely experience a full spectrum of human emotion. Why watch a movie when you can live that with your dog? Ok, maybe watch the movie with your dog…

Thank you for sharing your story with such engaging humor and soul!

What a beautiful story, Robin! Makes me miss our furry creatures so much.

If not for the chance to see them again at the rainbow bridge, I don’t think I could bear it. 🐴 🐶 🐈 🌈

Imagine the dog parties that unfold on the other side? I'm looking forward to it ❤️

What a sweet wonderful story and tribute to your angel pup. I’m 71 years old and have experienced that love and loyalty of my own dogs throughout my life. I have never had to buy one. They have always just appeared in my life and I have always believed they were the angel sent by a loving God to be the companion I needed at that point in my life. It has often occurred to me to write a book titled “My Life in Dog Years” in tribute to each of them as it seems that they represent a certain phase in my life and they were there to share it with me. I will be grieving with you when your beloved Chela passes. I have tears in my eyes even as I write this because I can already feel your pain.
